Detailed Itinerary

Morning: The Journey & Elephant Transit Home

Your day begins with a comfortable, air-conditioned drive from your coastal or hill-country hotel. Before entering the national park, we can optionally align our schedule to visit the nearby Elephant Transit Home during their morning feeding time, where orphaned elephant calves are rehabilitated before being released back into the wild.

Midday: The 4×4 Jeep Safari Begins

Upon reaching the park gates, you will transfer into a rugged, customized open-top 4×4 safari jeep. Led by your expert local tracker, you will head deep into the sanctuary. Unlike other parks, Udawalawe’s open terrain makes wildlife spotting much easier. Prepare to witness large herds of wild elephants feeding, bathing, and interacting right next to the trails.

Afternoon: Reservoir Views & Diverse Wildlife

As the safari continues toward the massive Udawalawe Reservoir, the landscape shifts. Keep your cameras ready—while elephants are the main attraction, the park is also home to water buffalo, crocodiles, macaques, and a stunning array of endemic birdlife, including majestic eagles and vibrant kingfishers. After an exhilarating ride, we exit the park for your relaxing return journey.
